Souls in Transition by Christian Smith is a definitive sociological work with regards to the current generation of young adults. Dr. Smith provides research from the National Study on Youth and Religion, which is the largest study of its kind in the world. A particular insight from the book includes the term “moral, therapeutic deism” which Smith claims is the operative religious stance for young people. He also claims that the best predictor of future religious practice is the practice of their family in early formative years and into adolescence.
