Readings for Sunday, September 12 — 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 50:4c-9a; Psalm 116: 1-6, 8-9; James 2:14-18; Mark 8:27-35

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • The first reading is one of the “Suffering Servant” songs in Isaiah. How have you felt God’s presence near to you in your times of suffering? How has your faith helped you through times of suffering?
  • What is a time that you’ve cried out to God and felt like he heard you? How did it feel to be heard by God?
  • Would a stranger be able to look at your daily life and tell what your religious beliefs were? How is your faith evident in your actions? How have you “taken up a cross” to follow Jesus?
  • In the Gospel reading, Jesus asks his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” How would  you answer this question? Who is Jesus in your life?
