Readings for Sunday, August 16 — 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Proverbs 9:1-6; Ps 34: 2-7; Ephesians 5:15-20; John 6:51-58

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • The first reading gives us a feminine image of God as Wisdom. How do you relate to the feminine aspects of the Divine?

  • Today’s culture seems riddled with foolishness in so many ways (just look at any “reality” TV show!). How do you see the virtue of wisdom at play in today’s world? How can you cultivate wisdom in your own life?

  • When Jesus talked about people eating his flesh and drinking his blood, it must have sounded crazy. Have people ever thought you were foolish or crazy because of something you believe? How did you hold onto your faith?
