Pentecost Sunday: The Gifts of the Spirit

Readings for Sunday, June 5, 2022 — Pentecost

Acts 2:1-11; Psalm 104:1, 24, 29-30, 31, 34; 1 Corinthians 12:3B-7, 12-13; John 20:19-23

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • At Pentecost, the friends of Jesus receive the Holy Spirit. They are able to address a large crowd of people from all over the known world. Each person is able to understand them in their own language. How is the Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, called to live out this particular mission in today’s world? How do you spread the Word to others who don’t understand you, even if you do speak the same language as them?
  • Paul informs the Corinthians that the Holy Spirit grants us different gifts and commissions us to different forms of Christian service. What gifts can you see in your parish community? What form of Christian service is the Holy Spirit guiding you toward?
  • Jesus tells the apostles that upon receiving the Holy Spirit they will be able to forgive sins in his name. When was the last time you celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation? How can you act out reconciliation in your life? What are some ways to show your favorite priest just how much his ministry means to you?
