Readings for Sunday, January 26, 2020 — Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Isaiah 8:23-9:3; Psalm 27:1,4,13-14; 1 Corinthians 1:10-13,17; Matthew 4:12-23
Suggested Reflection Questions:
- Isaiah speaks of a God who dispels all that causes his people suffering and bondage. God gives light to those oppressed by the darkness of distress and smashes the yoke of their burdens. As people who profess our trust in the saving power of God, how are we called to nurture this trust in those closest to us? In our neighborhoods? In our world?
- The psalmist sings of a God who gives us strength and refuge in the face of all that seeks to cause us despair. We are extolled to “wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD.” How can waiting for God be an act of courage?
- Jesus calls out to two brothers fishing in the Sea of Galilee. The men drop what they’re doing and follow Jesus. What is Christ asking you to put down so you can follow him?
