Eagerly Awaiting God in Our Lives

For the Solemnity of All Saints: Saints in Christ Jesus

Readings: Revelation 7:2-4, 9-14; Psalm 24:1BC-2, 3-4AB, 5-6; 1 John 3:1-3; Matthew 5:1-12A

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • Read the first reading once more. Imagine yourself in this reading. Where are you? Who are you? What do you see and feel?
  • Read the Gospel and think of who in your life you would call blessed. Where does he/she fit in with today’s Gospel reading? Where do you see yourself fitting in? Where do you want to fit in?
  • Today is the Feast of All Saints. What are some of the traditions from your childhood or present day life to celebrate this day? How will you celebrate this year?

Readings for Sunday, November 7 — 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

1 Kings 17:10-16; Psalm 146: 7-10; Hebrews 9:24-28; Mark 12:38-44

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever felt like you had nothing left to give, like the widows in the first reading and the Gospel? When has God asked more than seemed possible of you? How did God provide for you in that experience?
  • In the first part of today’s psalm, we hear of the Lord righting wrongs (justice/oppressed, food/hungry). Where do you think these words are most relevant today? How are you participating in God’s work in these areas? How could you do more?
  • What are the areas of poverty in your life? What are the areas of abundance? Can you offer both your poverty and your abundance back to God?
  • How do you “eagerly await” God’s coming into your life? How do you feel in moments when you have to wait for God? How do you cultivate patience?
