Readings for Sunday, January 20, 2019 — Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
Isaiah 62:1-5; Psalm 96:1-2, 2-3, 7-8, 9-10; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; John 2:1-11
Suggested Reflection Questions:
- The first reading begins with the prophet’s refusal to be silent until Jerusalem has been vindicated and is no longer looked upon as forsaken. In our world, who needs vindication? Who needs us to refuse to be silent on their behalf? How can we refuse to be silent for those who need vindication?
- Paul talks about gifts we receive through the Holy Spirit in his first letter to the church at Corinth. What gifts has God granted you? How are you being called to use these gifts in your parish, community, and world?
- Mary instructs the servers at the wedding feast in Cana to do whatever Jesus tells them. What does this passage tell us about Mary as an intercessor? What do you think keeps us from doing what Jesus says?
