Today we hear the Prophet Amos’ words of warning for those whose indulgence in excess has made them resistant to the commandments of God. What can we do to avoid the pitfalls of excess that surround us? How do these things cause complacency?
The psalmist sings a triumphant song of praise to God, who protects, heals, and sustains the vulnerable. If God is on the side of those who suffer, how do we make sense of the suffering abundant in the world?
The rich man in Jesus’ story ignores the plight of poor Lazarus lying at his door. He was so consumed by his life of comfort and pleasure he gave no thought to Lazarus. Are there people in our own communities that we are ignoring in pursuit of comfort for ourselves?
