Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • Today’s reading from the Prophet Isaiah speaks of a time to come when God’s reign upon the mountain is made known to all the nations, when judgment is rendered, and peace is established. On this first day of Advent, we remember that we not only wait for the celebration of Christ’s birth on Christmas but for his coming into the world again. What does Isaiah’s prophecy mean for us today?
  • In his letter to the community in Rome, Paul pleads with Christians to be prepared for the hour of Christ’s coming. Why does Paul exhort them to change their behavior?
  • Jesus tells his friends that they cannot know when he will come again so they must always be anxiously anticipating his return. How can you use this Advent as a time to draw closer to Christ? What spiritual practices will help you prepare?
