Saint Valentine lived in Rome during the third century. There are varying accounts of Valentine’s life story; however, it is believed that he was a priest who aided fellow Christians during a time of persecution in Rome. As a result of his devotion to Jesus, Valentine was eventually martyred. The Feast of Saint Valentine was first issued in 496 by Pope Gelasius I, and is celebrated on February 14. He is the patron saint of love, young people, and happy marriages. If Saint Valentine were around today, he might be running an online dating service. Happy Valentine’s Day!
