Details of Saint Patrick’s past are varied; however, it is known that Patrick was captured by Irish raiders and sold into slavery as a teenager. After years of herding sheep, Patrick fled Ireland and began his religious studies. Years later, having become a bishop, Patrick returned to Ireland and began converting people all across the island. Legend has it that he was able to convert entire kingdoms to Christianity by using the three-leaved shamrock to demonstrate the Holy Trinity. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and engineers. His feast day is March 17. If Saint Patrick were alive today, he might be advocating for fair working conditions for laborers in Ireland.
