Alice entered the convent of Camera Sanctae Mariae (Chamber of Our Lady), in Brussels, at the age of 7. When she was still young, she contracted leprosy and had to be isolated. She suffered greatly, and ultimately became blind and paralyzed. She found comfort only in receiving the Holy Eucharist, though she was not able to drink from the chalice, for fear of contagion. But God appeared to her and assured her that receiving only the Eucharist was sufficient. She became known for getting visions and ecstasies, and she died in 1250. Her feast day is June 15.
