Saint Dominic Savio

Saint Dominic Savio was born April 2, 1842, in Italy. At the age of 12, Dominc was sent to attend John Bosco’s Oratory in Turin. He quickly became a popular figure at the school for his devout love of God and his love for others. Within a short period of time Dominic organized a group of boys who would clean the school and assist boys who were uncared for. All of the members of this group eventually became the first members of John Bosco’s Salesian order — except for Dominic, who died at the age of 15 from tuberculosis. He is the patron saint of choir boys and juvenile delinquents. His feast day is March 9.

If Saint Dominic were alive today he would be guiding youths to religious vocations.

Young Adult Ministry Program Idea: Talk with young adults about the importance of leadership in faith. Point to saints, like Saint Dominic, and characters from the Bible (like Moses, Jesus, Paul, and others) as examples of leaders of faith. Ask young adults to name others. Next, have your group discuss ways in which each one of them can be better role models for their peers.
