Saint Antonio Vieira was born in 1608 in Portugal. He moved to Brazil at a young age and worked with indigenous people and African slaves while joining the Jesuits. In 1641, Antonio returned to Portugal and began preaching around Europe about tolerance for Jewish converts to Christianity. He continued to dedicate his life to protecting converts, indigenous people, and slaves until he died at the age of 89. He was canonized in 1897.

Young Adult Ministry Idea: Who are the indigenous people where you live? Make an effort to learn more about the history of indigenous people in your community – Who were they? Where are they now? How might your young adult group reach out to indigenous or Native American people and work together on common community concerns?
