Blessed Fra Angelico

Fra Angelico, born in 1395, was both a devout friar and an accomplished painter. Known as a pious man who painted religious subjects, he was born in Tuscany. He became a Dominican friar in 1425 and began painting altarpieces. He also painted many frescoes for the Dominican house in Florence, and the fresco of St. Peter’s Basilica. His most common subjects are Christ, Mary, and the saints, along with the Last Judgment and the Annunciation. John Paul II beatified him in 1982. He is the patron saint of artists. His feast day is February 18.
