All churches have a Sunday collection, and there are several ways young adults can help with this. Choose one Sunday each month and arrange for young adult volunteers to serve as ushers at Mass. Many churches also have a time every week when parishioners come in and count the money from the offertory. Are there any accountants in your young adult group? Encourage them to volunteer to help as a way to learn more about what the different collections fund. All churches face real world problems, and learning about these can help young adults in their own lives. Use this activity as a springboard for a discussion of responsible use of money, and help young adults see how they can help the church, monetarily or otherwise. Even if they just give time to announce the collection and help add the money together, their time is worthwhile.
