Pizza and a Movie

Table of Contents

Description: Young adults gather to watch Les Miserables and engage in small group discussions afterward to highlight the faith themes in the movie.

Get Ready

  • Prep Time: You should begin planning two months in advance to have enough time to reserve a location and publicize the event.
  • Volunteers Needed: Four to five volunteers will be best. These volunteers will greet at the event, set out the food, and lead small group discussions.
  • Supplies: A large TV, food and drinks, paper products (plates, napkins, etc.), and nametags.
  • Reserve the Space: You will need a large room with chairs and access to a large TV. This location could be at the church, at a restaurant, or possibly at an outdoor location.
  • Ideal Group Size: 25 to 100 (or more!). You may need more volunteers as small group facilitators if you have a larger group.
  • Who is this for? All young adults — married or single.
  • When is a good time for this? Summer weeknight or weekend. It would be neat to do this event outside on a cool summer evening!
  • Publicize the Program:
    • Promote the event as: Young Adult Mixer: Pizza and a Movie! Free food, awesome movie, great discussion and fellowship!
    • If hosting at a restaurant or pub, ask the location if you can put small flyers on their tables a week or two before the event.
    • Use social media to let young adults know about the event and share the details with their friends.
    • Publicize the food! People are drawn to events when food is provided.

Prayer for Program Planner: Lord, help us to draw young adults together for this event. Help us to reach the hearts of young adults through faith and fellowship! Amen.

Community Building: This event is a great way to bring in “seekers” or young adults who may not be strongly connected to the Church. It includes a popular movie and low-key, low-risk discussion. Pizza and a Movie is a great way to help young adults connect with one another.
