Lent

Lent Coloring

Table of Contents

Description: Gather young adults for a time of meaningful reflection and prayer this Lent and partake in the relaxing, even meditative, practice of coloring.

Get Ready

  • Prep Time: Two hours to prepare for your coloring time together, including time to find coloring pages online, print them, and gather crayons or colored pencils.
  • Volunteers Needed: You’ll need at least one volunteer to lead this program or help you lead it.
  • Ideal Group Size: Unlimited — you should guess at how many folks might attend, so that you have enough supplies.
  • Ideal Time for this Event: Choose a weekday evening — maybe Wednesday — and a time that allows people to arrive after work. Maybe 7 or 7:15 p.m.
  • Who is this for? This activity would be appropriate for all young adults.
  • Supplies Needed: You should create a worship center using a table, purple fabric, and a few votive and pillar candles. You will also need coloring pages and crayons and/or colored pencils. You can also invite people to bring their own, if they have them.
  • Reserve the Space: Reserve a quiet contemplative space for this time of reflection and prayer. Ideally, this space will have a large table or tables pulled together, for everyone to gather around.
  • Publicize the Program:
    • When you secure the location and have set a time for the event, begin promoting it in the parish bulletin, newsletter, and website. Ask your priest to announce the gathering at Mass. You should also use your young adult ministry website and any social media that you use — Facebook, Twitter, etc., to let people know about your event.
    • Encourage young adults to invite their friends. The season of Lent is an opportunity for spiritual renewal. This is a perfect opportunity to introduce new people to your young adult ministry.

Prayer for Program Planner: Loving God, during the season of Lent we turn to you for a deeper understanding of our lives and the ways we can serve you. May this time apart from the busyness of our everyday lives help us focus on our spiritual selves and our call to make you the center of our lives. Amen.

Community Building: The very act of gathering together for reflection and prayer helps build community. You might also invite everyone present out for a meal or coffee at a local restaurant afterward. Or you could plan for light refreshments at your parish. By continuing your fellowship together you can extend the reflection and time spent resting from the seasonal busyness.
