Description: This is a four-week online faith sharing community that centers on Catholic Social Teaching. The group will meet via Google+ Hangouts and will use YouTube videos, articles, and online simulation to facilitate conversation about living out the Catholic faith in the world.
Get Ready
- Prep Time: Plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour becoming familiar with the content of each session (see the “Faith Online” guide in the Help section). Then you will need about 30 minutes before each session to upload videos and website links. If you are not familiar with Google+ Hangout, you may need some additional research time learning how to use this tool.
- Volunteers Needed: A volunteer co-leader would be helpful.
- Supplies: The group will meet via Google+ Hangouts. So really all you need is a Google+ account and a webcam on your computer (or a smartphone or tablet) with the Google+ app. You will also need speakers or headphones.
- Reserve the Space: A Google+ Hangout will need to be set up. Reliable access to the Internet is needed.
- Ideal Group Size: Google+ Hangouts allows a maximum of 10 participants.
- Who is this for? This program is for anyone who can easily use the Internet.
- When is a good time for this? Any time is a good time. The most essential thing you need for this program is a time suitable for everyone’s schedule. Because of the versatility of devices, do not be afraid to host these sessions very late or early as is convenient for the people in the group.
- Publicize the Program: Invite people personally. Plan the dates ahead of time so they know what kind of time commitment to expect.
Prayer for Program Planner: May we be blessed with an Internet that keeps its connection. May we be blessed with participants that are open to hearing one another and the call of God in their lives. Amen.
Community Building: Using Google+ allows you to be where the people are! You might find yourself in bedrooms and bus seats depending on where and how people are able to log in. An interesting consequence of this media is that you are always looking at one another’s faces. This causes a unique presence to the other folks logged in.
