St. Catherine of Siena

Saint Catherine of Siena was born in 1347 in Siena, Italy. At the age of 6, Catherine had visions of guardian angels. After becoming a Dominican tertiary at the age of 16, she began her faithful service to God. Catherine played an important role for the church during the Western Schism by writing many letters that argued for unity within the church. In 1377, Catherine convinced the pope to return to Rome from Avignon. As a result of these efforts, she is officially celebrated as a Doctor of the Church. Saint Catherine is the patron saint of firefighters and those who are persecuted for their piety. Her feast day is April 29. If Saint Catherine were alive today, she might be assisting the Church in recovering from scandals and negative publicity.
