Make It Happen
- This is a truly unstructured program. Simply publicize the time and location, have tables and chairs available, as well as supplies, set everything up, and have fun!
- The only structure is if you are going to do one, or more, of the following:
- Potluck dinner: You may wish to set up a method for the potluck to make sure that all aspects are covered. For example, those with last names of A-M bring side dishes and N-Z bring chips or desserts.
- A sports tournament: If you set up a volleyball tournament or a more structured sporting event, you will want to plan it in advance and advertise that aspect specifically.
- Offering a few games that are not sports related is a good idea, such as Telestrations or Apples to Apples.
Ideas
- Activity ideas:
- Volleyball, baseball, softball, mushball, bocce ball, badminton, etc.
- If there are the resources: canoeing, paddle boating, hiking, nature walk. Sometimes these activities are available at your local municipal, state, or national parks.
- Depending on the interest of your group, incorporating the option for photography can be a nice element. A photo scavenger hunt can be fun!
- You can also plan to celebrate Mass or share a communal prayer as part of the event.
- Explore the idea of incorporating prayer or reflections on the care for creation, prayers for creation, or Franciscan spirituality to take advantage of the nature environment.
Help
- Be careful with the weather. You will want to have a way to follow any developing inclement weather. Also, if the weather is hot, make sure to bring extra water. Having large water coolers is a great idea for your sports players!
- Check your local chamber of commerce or park and rec departments for park options and activity options.
