The Lord’s Vineyard

Readings for October 8, 2017

Isaiah 5:1-7; Psalm 80: 9, 12, 13-14, 14-16, 19-20; Philippians 4:6-9; Matthew 21:33-43

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • In the first reading, Isaiah notes that the vineyard owner “planted the choicest vines.” What are the “choice vines” that God has planted in your life? What gifts have you received? What talents? How might you use those gifts and talents in a way that expresses your gratitude for them?
  • St. Paul urges the Philippians to “have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make their requests known to God.” What do you need to use that God has planted in you? What graces do you want to ask for in order to respond to God’s call?
  • In the Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the landowner and the tenants who kill the landowner’s messengers and even his son. What are some ways that you can welcome the Jesus into your life? In what ways can we recognize that we are tenants and give glory to God who owns the land?
