Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • In the first reading, we are told that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, and God’s ways are not our ways. This can be a difficult reality to accept. When, in your life, have you grumbled against God’s will? We are told that God’s ways are high above our ways. Did you realize that God’s ways were for the better? How did this change your faith in God?
  • In the psalm, we hear the verse, “The Lord is near to those who call upon him.” When have you called upon God and felt his closeness? Maybe you are calling upon the Lord and wondering where he is. How can we deepen our prayer lives so as to call upon the Lord and feel the peace that comes with living life on God’s time?
  • In the Gospel, we find workers grumbling. They feel they have been treated unfairly because of their additional work in the vineyard. This is a parable about God’s generosity. Take a few moments and place yourself in this story. Who are you? Are you the vineyard workers grumbling? Are you the owners granting a generous wage? What struck you as you placed yourself in the story?
