Finding Direction

Readings for August 24, 2014 — 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Isaiah 22:19-23; Psalm 138:1-2, 2-3, 6, 8; Romans 11:33-36; Matthew 16:13-20

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • The psalm asks God not to forsake the work of his hands. We ask God not to abandon us. What is a great fear or problem that you are currently facing? Have you turned to God for help or direction? How can you get rid of this fear or problem and make yourself more open to God’s love and forgiveness?

  • In today’s second reading, Paul discusses the depths of God’s wisdom and knowledge. How do you picture God? Does hearing this reading make you see God in a new way? What is your relationship to God like lately? How can it improve?

  • In the Gospel reading, Jesus tells us that he has come to build His church. How do you see the Church today? What do you think the Church is for? Re-read the Gospel again. What does it mean for you and your role in the Church?
