Good Samaritan Mystery

This week a Canadian man visiting New York City with his family suffered a heart attack on a busy city street. A stranger rushed to Jason Kroft’s aid and performed CPR, an act that officials said saved the man’s life. This “Good Samaritan” remains a mystery and Kroft is expected to make a full recovery. Share this Good Samaritan story with young adults, read the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25-37, and talk about opportunities for young adults to offer help and compassion to people in need:

  • Have you ever been on the receiving end of the kindness from a Good Samaritan? What happened?
  • Who are the people waiting by the side of the road for help in your community? Are there people in your own parish or campus who could use some kindness?
  • What might you or your young adult group do to reach out to these people?
  • What can you do this week (as an individual) and this month (as a young adult group) to show kindness to others?
Idea: You might close this time of discussion and reflection with a time of prayer for those who wait by the side of the road for kindness and mercy. You might give young adults a small slip of paper and ask them to write a short sentence prayer to be shared with the whole group. Collect these pieces of paper in a basket and then circulate the basket in the group and have each person take a slip and pray that prayer aloud and also take it with them to prayer during the week.
